HERITAGE
The Kôrè Cultural Centre’s mission is to promote and safeguard Mali’s heritage. Through its Kôrè Museum, it creates a bridge between the past and the present.
The Kôrè Museum of Arts and Crafts in Ségou is a major site of memory, conservation of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of Mali, promotion and enhancement of the knowledge, know-how and endogenous practices of Mali and Africa that tend to disappear.
It consists of cataloging, classifying, promoting and safeguarding collections of art and craft objects of historical, technical, scientific and artistic interest with a view to their conservation and transmission from generation to generation.
MKAA is focused on the authenticity of endogenous cultural heritage and based on effective transmission of endogenous knowledge, practices and know-how, productive safeguarding of ICH which aims to transform intangible cultural heritage and its resources into innovative cultural products through production.
It is also a museum of music, dance, masks, and puppets, working to promote cultural heritage. It houses a permanent collection of objects and works tracing the history of music, dance, and artistic and cultural expression in West Africa. It comprises three (3) pavilions:
- “Maaya Bulon” Pavilion
- “Crafts and History” Pavilion
- Contemporary Art Pavilion
